Top tips for finding cheap flights to New Zealand

  • Auckland Airport (AKL) is the busiest airport in New Zealand and the first destination for most international flights, including your trip from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). As there are no connecting flights on this route, you’ll most likely travel aboard Air New Zealand with a stopover at San Francisco, Air Tahiti Nui to change planes in Los Angeles, and United Airlines with a layover at Houston or San Francisco.
  • Dallas/Fort Worth International is ranked as the second busiest airport in the world by passenger volume, handling more than 60 million travelers annually. It’s, therefore, advisable to be at the airport 3h early, especially if your flight is scheduled to depart when it’s busiest between 9:00 a.m.to 10:00 a.m., Sunday, Monday, and Friday, factoring in an average in-line wait time of approximately 16 minutes.
  • Pets must be leashed or confined in appropriate carriers while traveling through DWF unless using the indoor Pet Relief Areas in Terminals A Gate 29, B at Gate 28, D at Gate 18, and E at Gate 31. There are designated outdoor pet zones outside entry doors A8, C2, D15, and E2 on the lower level of DFW. According to the Auckland Airport By-law, only fully-vaccinated, pre-approved, emotional support dogs or family pets traveling as cargo are permitted at AKL.
  • Moms traveling with kids can take advantage of the Play Area in Terminal D Gate D8 at the McDonald’s fast food restaurant or use the amenities in the Nursing Rooms at Gates A18, B40, and E14 when traveling through DFW. Auckland Airport has Baby Care facilities with change tables and cots at Gates 15 to 18 of the International Arrivals Terminal and shower facilities near Strata Lounge.
  • As one of the America’s busiest airports, DFW has 17 lounges from an Admirals Club in four of its five terminals to The Club DFW in Terminal D, USO Lounge in Terminal B, United Airlines United Club in Terminal E, etc. Should you wish to freshen up after your long flight to New Zealand, you can do so at Auckland Airport’s Strata Lounge at the international terminal.

Arriving at Coolangatta, rows 20 forward, took the airbridge across to the terminal. It was suggested to those from rows 21 back, that we take the rear stairs and to be careful crossing the tarmac. That was all well and good. However, when we got across to the terminal we then had to climb three large flights of stairs to meet up with those coming across the airbridge. No elevator! There were people carrying babies and elderly carrying hand luggage that needed assistance from others.. There was no option to turn back.

It was good for a short domestic flight. As no food ar entertainment provided, there should be a n/a rating available for those.

Economy was much nicer on the Air New Zealand planes.

At Coolangatta International it is difficult to hear voice boarding announcements when away from screen announcements.

Flew premium economy, well worth the extra. Much better seat size & space. Meals & snacks were lovely. Crew really pleasant. Internet is not great, not really useful for anything. Couldn't even send messages.

Everything was fine. Wish the wifi was free and included in the ticket price.

Nothing special short flight - all good - difference between 1 fudge and 2 fudge is obligation and thankfulness

The flight we had booked was cancelled due to bad weather conditions, but we were lucky to arrive at the airport quite early and got a seat on an earlier flight. The flight was mostly nice, but there were some hefty turbulences towards Queenstown. One of the passengers behaved hysterically. It would have been great if the crew had done something to calm her.

Major hassle with the weight of carryon luggage Having to repack bags at airport Not an issue in most of world Ridiculous issue considering the 400 pound gentleman sitting behind us

Overall experience was poor. In general crew was polite in speaking but that was all about it. I am vegetarian so I always carry a cup noodle box with me just in case. So I pressed "CALL" button for hot water for my cup noodle on my seat and waited for 10-15 minutes but nobody came. I personally took the box and went all the way to back of the plane. When I requested stewardess to put hot water in my cup noodle she refused as it was a "safety" hazard. I told her that you always serve coffee and tea these are also hot. But she still refused. I went back to my seat and from the seat I ordered hot water and it was brought to me without any problem. I poured THAT hot water in my cup noodle and ate. I was sitting in seat 36A, which was 2nd row in economy class. After eating my noodle I took the box and went 2 rows in the front where there was a kitchen to throw it. Again the stewardess there told me she didn't have a waste bin there and asked me to go back of the plane and throw it there. Tell me if above experiences are 'ok' for your airline??

We boarded but then sat there waiting on some missed connection people to get on so we sat for about 15 minutes for that. Then we sat again because the passenger manifest was wrong and they had to figure it out before we could leave. That took about another 20 minutes or so. The crew was working hard to figure it out so it’s not their fault. It ended up being a system glitch where someone was upgraded to first class while another person was also in the same seat and it just created a mess that took a little while to figure out. They literally went to every person on the plane asking their names to see who was sitting in the wrong seat. I also hate the entertainment that must be watched on your phone or tablet. Just give us setback screens. It’s so much better. Almost every Delta flight has this now and it is so nice to have them. The crew did a great job. I have no complaints from them. They were very hard working, even with the mishap and a disgruntled passenger.

My priority checked bag was not loaded on the flight. I had to sit in baggage claim in Las Vegas for 2 1/2 hours waiting for the next flight. All baggage staff were very helpful, tracking showed it as scanned for loading. Nobody told me why it wasn't on my flight.

All male crew was just too woke for me. I felt like a sardine. I will never take a window seat or the rearmost seat again. I booked early and did not pay for seat selection and that was a mistake. The security at IAH was atrocious. I was violated and radiated as I was in a hurry to connect to my other flight. I may have lost items under the seat in front of me that I couldn't see nor bend over to look.

Food choices were very limited. Taste of the dishes was average.

It’s been awhile since I have traveled on United. I, along with my family who were on the flight noted how smoothly everything went . Boarding, flight crew and service was excellent.

Oh my gosh, I loved my experience with United! they made me want to travel more often.

In general ok, my only issue is that they had no hot items for purchase. I had very little time in my connection due to baggage/customs/TSA, thag I barely even had a chance for a stop at the washroom and buy water, to make it to my gate when they started boarding. I had nothing to eat because the trip started early, so I was ready to purchase, and they had nothing except for dry items like snacks. I had to purchase a mediocre, overpriced cheese and fruit board, instead of at least a pizza or sliders that I was planning on getting. Other than that, it was fine. But that’s typical Air Canada, to not have enough.

How badly can you screw up baggage claim? We were told to go to baggage claim too for our bags from this flight. Another flights bags were there. They finished up. More bags from a different flight arrived. Our bags did not Finally the baggage claim belt stopped working and and are flight was still listed on the arrivals for that baggage claim 2. And then nothing It turns out that they had been delivered not only the United baggage claim but far away on a Delta baggage claim No I never told us. It was only the people looking around who had been on the flight But I’m sure there was plenty of time for the employees to raffle through the bags and steal whatever they wanted

Sucks ! All three flights I was on this trip were delayed.

Long wait before take off without an update for 20 minutes. Flight was good otherwise.
