KAYAK’s top tips for finding a cheap flight from New York to London

  • Looking for a cheap flight? 25% of our users found flights on this route for $1,156 or less round-trip.
  • For travellers looking to fly from New York to London, you have a range of flights and airports to choose from. In New York you can fly either from JFK or Newark (EWR), arriving in Heathrow (LHR). Daytime flights generally go from JFK to Heathrow (LHR), with Virgin Atlantic, KLM, or Air France. Overnight options include Austrian Airlines and United Airlines flights from Newark (EWR) to Heathrow (LHR). If you prefer to fly from LaGuardia (LGA), there are indirect flights via Orlando with British Airways, or via Charlotte (CLA) with American Airlines.
  • If you’d like to relax in a lounge before flying, at JFK you’ll fly out from Terminal 1, 2, or 4 depending on the airline. Terminal 1 offers the Air France and Lufthansa lounges. In Terminal 2 there’s the Delta Sky Club, and Terminal 4 has a plethora of lounges including Delta Sky Club, Virgin Clubhouse, and Wing Tips. If you’re flying from Newark (EWR), each terminal offers several lounges. Terminal A has the American Airlines lounge, Terminal B has the Delta Sky Club and the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, and Terminal C has the United Club.
  • Since you will likely want to arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight from New York to London, an excellent way to pass the time before your trip will be a must. British Airways First Lounge takes airport lounges to a new level. This lounge features a wine room, an opulent bar, and a secluded work area, as well as an upscale dining room. With upscale features like these, you will be downright disappointed when they call for boarding for your flight.
  • For families with infants, JFK has several nursing rooms around the airport. There are nursing stations in Terminal 1 by the Air France lounge, by Gate C70 in Terminal 2, and at Gates A3 and B31 or by the West Retail Hall in Terminal 4. In Terminal 1 there’s a currency exchange shop at the departures level W near the concourse gates 1–3. In Terminal 2, there’s a Travelex branch near Gate 61. Newark (EWR) has multiple Travelex branches in Terminals B and C.

Members will enjoy faster entry at passport control since you can use ePassport gates and will not have to fill out a landing card, undergo an interview, or have any fingerprints taken as a visa holder.
  • Gone are the days of needing to go to a U.S. bank to get a bunch of European currency or traveler's checks before your trip. ATMs are just as plentiful in Europe as in the United States and the fees and exchange rates you will pay using your debit card to make purchases or get cash will be far less than traveler's checks and credit cards.
  • If you are connecting to a flight to another destination after your flight from New York to London, you generally will not have to pick up your checked bags. Once you exit the plane, you can follow the purple signs for flight connections. You will need to pass through border control and, if you are going to a different terminal, you may have to pass through security again.
  • By far the most budget-friendly way to get to London from the airport is the London underground. One thing to note is that, while this is an excellent option for your wallet, it may prove difficult if you have a lot of baggage to carry since space may be tight and there will be quite a few escalators and stairs to navigate.

We had an unfortunate experience where we had to leave the aircraft after boarding, shortly before the scheduled takeoff time, and re-board. The reason given was that a passenger felt ill and had to cancel their plans and therefor their luggage had to be found and removed.

We’ve used VA before many times the experience is always been good they have lovely staff and the food is always delicious.

Everything about the flight was amazing from check in to boarding entertainment was okay food we didn’t try.

Seats were old and dirty, for a long haul flight you expect to be able to recline and for the av to work properly. Choice for vegans was fruit….

The Virgin Atlantic crew was very good. However, the equipment was OK, the seats were OK, but her bags did not arrive with me. Two bags showed up a day later and I’m still waiting for my third back.

The crew was very good. However, the equipment was a bit dated. Some of the electronics were not working. To top it, three bags didn’t arrive with me. Two of them were delivered a day later. I’m still waiting for the third bag, I was so looking forward to this virgin Atlantic flight, but, I am disappointed.

My only complaint is that the pocket in front of me was ripped and my things, like iPad and airline magazines, kept slipping to the floor.

Flight delayed yet again. Crew apathetic and unhelpful re affect on connecting flight.

I think Virgin is one of the best flying experiences, especially from/to the UK. The staff are so helpful and fun, the food is good, seats comfortable, goof entertainment and great value. Check in and boarding is pretty pain free. I also find that the other passengers are generally so kind and considerate than when I've flown other airlines.

Cabin crew on our flight showed lack of any customer service gruff and acting annoyed if you asked anything and I mean anything Example a man on the seat over dropped his beer on my husbands blanket We asked if we could switch out blankets cabin crew Said. No we don’t have any extras OK well can you take the wet one Cabin crew looked disgusted and annoyed Took it no OK or yes just a growl

It would have been better to have USB charging ports available on the longer haul Flight that one of 2 hours

Was very good Staff was great. No tv monitors tho. So long flights make it longer

The worst. No free beverages. No entertainment on an overseas flight. Not enough space. Never again.

Play is affordable! Only way we fly from the states to Europe. Left late but arrived on time

have screens on backs of chairs...offer free snacks and water

Boarding and crew was great. Flight was cold, need layers. Deplaning was hard. We had to take stairs off the plane and I was separated from my travel companion because we were not seated together and they would not let him wait for me to get off so we were forced onto different shuttles.

Check in and boarding was easy, crew was cheerful. Not much to read or do on the plane and our neighboring passengers were talking loudly so we could not sleep. But overall good. Great coffee.

Flyplay is the only way I travel to Europe. Had a 15 hr layover in Iceland. Normally this would suck, but I regret a car and saw the black sand beaches, several waterfalls and sky lagoon. And finished with lamb at cafe Loki.

did not get the seats we had specially paid for

This is a no frills airline. You cant expect much for the price. Low cost flight, clean, nice staff. That's all I need for the price. If you want more, book with another airline and pay more. For Europe trips, PLAY is the ONLY airline I use

Nice flight. Legroom was good. Food was good. Staff was friendly and helpful. Plane was modern and clean. Seats and headrests were comfortable. Entertainment system was good and modern, with a bright LCD screen and many appealing choices.

I have something to say about the flight I took from London to Gothenburg, after my flight from Austin to London. I fly a lot and have done so for decades. I first flew to Scandinavia in 1973. My former wife is Norwegian. The main thing was the experience at the Gothenburg airport. Three flights from Britain arrived around the same time. So there were huge lines at immigration since Brits are no longer a part of the EU. After over an hour in line, I finally gave my passport to the immigrations man. You’d have thought I was an Afghan. I just barely got into Sweden. I had to answer all kinds of blunt questions. I had to show all kinds of onward tickets, addresses of places I’d be staying and it was pretty daunting. Perhaps it has to do with the situation with Russia. British Air might have done something to prepare people that things have changed a lot and they’d better be ready to run the gauntlet when trying to get into the country here. Thanks for listening and taking this into consideration. Sincerely, a senior citizen of the USA

My flight was late. We stayed in aircraft one hour 😩

Flight delay and can’t much help passenger do the change connecting flight.

5 days later I have not yet received my luggage so terrible and unacceptable

Easy and quick check in, clean and nice seats. Overall excellent experience.

The seats in airbus from LA to London are uncomfortable. They are too narrow. I am a slim person but felt cramped. The way the seats are laid out really hinders privacy. You are forced to look at the person next to you which is awkward, Also the entertainment on the same leg was limited. The crew was excellent and attentive and the food was decent. The seats on London to Delhi leg were way better. The crew again was very attentive and polite.

Great job notifying of 30 minute delay in departure. Fabulous job making up for the time and arriving as scheduled. Air travel is just no fun anymore with the extreme overcrowding, and someone needs to come up with an innovative plan for loading and unloading passengers (load all window seats first, middle seats second, aisle seats last?). Great job getting the luggage on the carousel in record time!

Although it was an overnight flight, the crew could’ve have made more refreshment passes.

All and it was good . But no one woke me when meals came around . Please have a don’t not disturb sign if you opted for that . Left very hungry missing all meals .
