Pieter Van Gent Winery, Mudgee NSW

Pieter Van Gent made the first Chardonnay wine in Australia in 1971 and consequently went on to win every wine medal possible during his career, so it would be a mistake to leave his vineyard off our best winery experiences list. The cellar door is set in an old barrel room, with church pew seating and gilded wine bottles suspended from the ceiling. From Wednesday to Sunday, they also do a chocolate and wine pairing with locally-made pralines, so make sure you plan your trip to arrive later on in the week.

The Estate also has its own bicycle wine tour so you can visit numerous wineries around Mudgee as well as stopping at a local lunch spot for some wood-fired pizza.

Devil’s Corner Cellar Door & Lookout, Apslawn, TAS

Devil’s Corner Cellar Door is one of Tassie’s most beautiful vineyards. The cellar door itself is made from rustic materials which perfectly contrast to Tasmania’s natural setting, located on the edge of a lagoon with views across the Hazards and Freycinet Peninsula.

This vineyard is more than just a place to enjoy amazing wine, and we recommend leaving enough time to watch the sunset in the evening. Sit back and relax on the deck to take in the panoramic views and order a plate of freshly-shucked oysters to accompany a glass of their award-winning pinot grigio.
